Jonathan Martin is a corporate finance executive and business strategy advisor with over 30 years of success helping privately held companies achieve their objectives in special circumstances. Jonathan has deep expertise in corporate financial management, strategic transactions (including mergers, acquisitions, exits and divestitures), performance improvement, and financial distress mitigation. He has served client companies across all sectors as an advisor to shareholders, as a consultant to management and as an interim or fractional CFO.
In 2023, Jonathan joined PIDC as its Corporate Development Officer, having previously served on the company’s Advisory Board. PIDC develops and manufactures custom specialty chemicals, inorganic materials, and ceramic-enabled electronic components. As CDO, Jonathan leads PIDC’s long-term growth through acquisitions and strategic partnerships. His guidance was essential to PIDC’s successful acquisition of Trans-Tech, an advanced ceramics company, from Skyworks (NASDAQ: SWKS).
From 2016 through 2022, Jonathan served as Managing Director of the Amherst Fund, a closely held fund in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Amherst Fund invests in privately held companies across a wide range of sectors with investment structures that include equity, subordinated debt, and senior debt. Jonathan provided oversight and support for the fund’s portfolio companies; he also participated in general management and administration of the fund. Notably, he was instrumental in leading the planning, preparation and execution of Amherst’s highly successful strategic sale of Saline Lectronics to Emerald EMS. He also successfully formulated and executed financial distress mitigation measures for portfolio companies facing crisis in the pandemic of 2020-2021, achieving the fund’s financial and non-financial objectives. Jonathan continues to serve the Amherst Fund as Fund Advisor.
Prior to joining Amherst Fund, Jonathan served as an advisor and interim CFO to privately held companies including Omnex, Inc., a global quality management services company, and the Jack Doheny Company, a major North American dealer of specialized heavy equipment. Prior to that, he served as Managing Director of Amherst Partners, a leading Michigan-based investment banking and consulting firm (unrelated to the Amherst Fund). For Amherst Partners, he originated and managed both consulting and investment banking projects for middle market clients across all industries. Jonathan began his career as a commercial banker for Michigan National Bank, originating, underwriting and administering commercial banking relationships, including credit, treasury services and other offerings.
Jonathan earned his MBA from the University of Michigan and his bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University.
